Working with Twelve Cakras
An Energy Body Workshop
Two and a Half Hours with Tina Shettigara
Did you know that there are twelve cakras?
The seven cakra model gained fame, and some modern embroidery, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries with the translations of some late tantric texts by Arthur Avalon (Sir John Woodruffe), the interest in Indian spirituality by the Theosophists, and the interest paid to cakras by Carl Jung. The position of the seven cakra system continued to enjoy its top of the charts status with influential publications and courses by people such as Carolyn Myss and Judith Anodea.
This workshop returns to the Vijñānabhairavatantra, an ancient text of the 8th century, to discover a twelve cakra system and to explore how to practice with it. We will intersperse seated periods with some movement.
What you need
Please bring your yoga mat and sitting/lying props. Chairs are quite OK to use for sitting practices, preferred if they allow an upright posture not available sitting on the floor.
NOTE: Sacred sex and sacred relationship training are NOT included in this workshop.
Please also note that I am using the IAST system of writing Sanskrit words in roman script. The spelling “cakra” is deliberate, not a typo, and the letter c is pronounced as the ch at the end of church.
